Today we received our 2nd project assigned to us. It wasn’t long we finished and submitted our first project but I guess this can be expected in MSc.
Interaction Design Project, is interesting and challenging at same time. In our previous project I learned alot and marked my weak points so now I know what I need to look after throughout the second or any other future projects. Today we’re also divided in new groups and I like the my team and looking forward to work with them.
Project Context, Background and Aim:
The aim of the project is to research, design and test an interactive, digital wireframe prototype for (part of) or whole application chosen by the group.
We were given 2 weeks time to come up with some kind of plan with:
- What platform we wanted to use (Mobile IOS, Android or Website based)
- What is the scope? Will it be a redesign of the app or part of it?
- A plan of how and what we will be doing as workflow?
By the end of class we (Brendan, Mariana & I) had a quick chat on to see what do we think of the project. We all were very excited and started sharing our thoughts on the project and the apps we could work on. For example Mariana, suggested she think its very difficult to use the Netflix app on TV when you need to type anything as there is no interface of quicktype. It takes long time to select each word through your TV remote to type a name or title of any program.
We also had some crazy thoughts on what if can create a TV app linked to an external mobile remote which works as your bluetooth keyboard with addition to a motion sensor so you can use your phone to hoover around the TV screen without touching or manually selecting anything. It’s more like a PS4 controller function.
We all thought that the idea is great however it might required too much of effort to show the interaction as it directly depend on the secondary function which is linked to another app on your phone. But I thought it was a good start for us to already thinking about the project and outcomes.
Later that eve when I was doing some more research on the app we needed for our project, I kind of listed 3.ie app and Bord Gáis. Both these apps are very poorly designed and not user friendly at all. There is not a single function you could do without any issues. Below are few of the issues with both of the apps:
